Abstract

1378162 Vehicle headlamps JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 1 Feb 1972 [17 Feb 1971] 4883/71 Heading F4R An auxiliary lens member for mounting on a headlamp of a road vehicle comprises a lens element 11 carrying a number of resilient clips 12 at least one of which is provided at a free end thereof with a ramp surface 16 which is so arranged to retain the lens element on the lamp such that movement thereof relative to the lamp in a predetermined direction facilitates removal of the lens element from the lamp. Preferably each clip 12 includes a part 13 attached to the lens, a part 14 extending away from the lens and integral, inwardly projecting lip 15 having a tapered form to define the ramp surface 16. The lips 15 engage in respective apertures (25), Fig. 2 (not shown), in a decorative bezel (22) surrounding the lens (17) of a sealed beam lamp unit (21). Rotation of the auxiliary lens element 11 in one direction moves the ramp surface 16 over the edge of the apertures (25) to urge the clip out of engagement therewith. Recesses 27 in lens element 11 engage integral lugs (26) on the lamp lens (17) to restrict movement of the auxiliary lens element 11 to one direction only. The sythetic resin auxiliary lens element 11 converts a headlamp into a fog or spot lamp or deflects the lamp beam laterally.
