Abstract

1,224,523. Rear-view mirrors. WINGARD Ltd. 6 Nov., 1969 [10 Dec., 1968], No. 58618/68. Heading B7J. [Also in Division E2] A rear-view vehicle mirror comprises a mirror glass 15 (Fig. 1) mounted in a plastics case having a back 10 formed with a housing 12 for an angularly adjustable fitting 13 for mounting the rear-view mirror on a support arm, the case having a peripheral flange 11 extending towards the mirror glass 15. The invention is characterized in that the periphery of the mirror glass 15 is received in a groove 16 in a sealing member 17 of elastomeric material which is retained in the case between a rib 14 extending from the back 10 towards the mirror glass 15, and the peripheral flange 11 with which the member 17 makes a seal. The surface of the sealing member 17 adjacent to the mirror glass 15 has a step 18 adapted to be engaged by a tongue or tongues 19 on each of a number of spring clips 21 (Fig. 2) engaged with the rib 14 by means of tongues 22. In other embodiments the member 17 has a laterally projecting lip to engage the edge of the flange 11. Furthermore, two ribs 14 may be provided and the stepped portion of the member 17 engages therebetween or the member 17 may have two stepped portions embracing a single rib 14. In yet another embodiment the rib 14 may have a plurality of spaced laterally projecting lips behind which the steps 18 of the member 17 engage.
