Abstract

1377774 Sewing WILLIAM PRYM-WERKE KG 17 April 1972 [5 May 1971] 17685/72 Heading DIG A machine for sewing a zip fastener between upper and lower supporting material using twin needles 5 has a support surface 12 for the lower material, a support 30, 31 for the continuous strip of fastener and a mechanism 9, 10, 11 for cutting and clamping the fastener after sewing it on. When the presser foot 7 is raised spring biased rods 37, 39 protrude from the work plate and presser foot respectively to act as stops. The fastener guide 30, 31 is raised and one end of the lower material is placed against the stop 37, while the other end is held in a clamp 13. This clamp slides in guides 14 and tensions the material by hanging from the end of it. The fastener guide is lowered, the upper material is placed against the top stop 39 and the presser foot lowered. The stops do not then protrude. During sewing when the clamp 13 reaches a release pin 17 it releases the material which continues to move through the machine, while the clamp is held by a bar 15. The end of the fastener strip may then be cut and a connector clamped to it. The bar 15 is controlled by cylinder 18, and the fastener guide 30, 31 is moved pneumatically by a bar 28. A leaf spring 33 smoothes the lower material.
