Abstract

1377414 Stabilized 1,1,1 - trichloroethane DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 24 March 1972 [27 March 1971] 13993/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] 1,1,1-Trichloroethane is stabilized against decomposition by metals, heat, light &c. by the addition of (A) methoxyacetonitrile and/or 2- methoxypropionitrile and/or 3-methoxypropionitrile (B) aliphatic epoxide containing 3 to 6 carbon atoms and (C) a monohydric saturated aliphatic alcohol containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms. Alternatively, 1,1,1-trichloroethane may be stabilized by (A), (B), (C) and (D) a nitroalkane containing 1 to 4 C atoms or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl nitrate; in which case, (C) may be replaced by an aliphatic monoketone or may be a mixture of the said alcohol and ketone. (A) is present in quantities of 0À05 to 1% by wt. of the 1,1,1-trichloroethane. Typical stabilizers are methoxyacetonitrile, nitromethane, 1,2-epoxybutane, tert.-butanol and methylethylketone. An optional stabilizer is 1,4-dioxane or other cyclic ether.
