Abstract
1377382 Fuel atomizers ASSOCIATED BRITISH COMBUSTION Ltd 18 Feb 1972 [13 May 1971] 14685/71 Heading F4T A fuel-oil atomizer comprises a generally cylindrical block 1 having steam passages 4 extending from respective steam inlets to respective steam outlets, the passages 4 having longitudinal axes which generally converge in the general direction of oil discharge and which are skewed relative to the axis of the block to provide a required divergence of the oil spray, a conduit 6 for the oil being associated with each passage and leading from a respective inlet for the oil to a region of the passage intermediate its ends, whereby that portion of each passage downstream of its junction with the respective conduit forms a mixing chamber, the passages being formed without abrupt increase of cross-section between the steam inlets and the mixing chambers. As shown the conduits 6 lead from a bore 3 and the passages 4 lead from an annular groove 2. The passages 4 may be of constant cross-section or, alternatively, formed with increased diameter outlet portions 5. The axes of each passage 4 and its associated conduit 6 may intersect or be slightly offset. In use, oil and steam are supplied to the atomizer through a pair of coaxially arranged tubes (not shown). The outlet end of the atomizer may be faired, Fig. 5 (not shown), to improve air flow over the atomizer.
