Abstract

1377071 Foundry mould composition FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 12 July 1972 [12 July 1971] 32620/71 Heading C3N A foundry moulding sand composition comprises at least 50% by weight of a particulate refractory material, a liquid aqueous sodium silicate, and a wood flour impregnated with a liquid petroleum oil. The petroleum oil is preferably a predominantly aromatic cracking residue obtained from the catalytic cracking of crude petroleum oil. The weight ratio of wood flour to the petroleum derivative may vary between 1 : 1 and 5 : 1 and the weight ratio of impregnated wood flour to sugar from 10 : 1 to 2 : 1. The sand may also include a reducing sugar and the weight proportion of impregnated wood flour and reducing sugar may be 0À5 to 2%. Silica flour may also be added.
