Abstract

1376415 Vices SIPEM SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE PRECISION MECANIQUE 2 March 1973 [2 March 1972] 10281/73 Heading B3B A vice with a movable 4 and a fixed jaw 3 mounted on a base 1 and a pneumatic or oleopneumatic jack 5 for moving the movable jaw, comprises a rack 7 movable by the jack 5 in guides in the base 1, a further rack 15 fixed to the movable jaw 4, and a reduction gear 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, 14, 14<SP>1</SP> operable between the racks 7, 15 to increase the clamping force, the vice being characterized by providing one of the reduction gears to be disengageable to allow manual setting of the movable jaw. A spindle 9 having a knurled head 10 is moved axially to disengage the pinion 8 from the rack 7. Rotation of the spindle 9 rotates the spindle 16 to manually set the movable jaw. In an alternative embodiment the movable rack 7 is guided on needle rollers between lateral roller guides. A pair of racks 15 are provided on the movable jaw 4 to engage a pair of pinions on the shaft 17. The jack 5 includes a buffer block 29 to quieten the release movement of the piston.
