769,725. Grips for testing-machines. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T. Dec. 19, 1955 [Dec. 17, 1954, No. 36542/54. Class 106 (2). A wedge grip for use in testing- machines comprises a movable slide 4 mounted in the machine crosshead 1 having inclined upper faces 4a adapted to bear against the underfaces 3e of wing projections formed on each of a pair of wedges 3, the faces 3e inclining correspondingly with the slide faces 4a so that movement of the slide will be imparted to the pair of wedges simultaneously whilst maintaining the wedges in engagement with the tapering faces of the cavity 2. The slide 4 may be moved by a rack 5 driven by a manually rotatable pinion 6. The wing projections have upper faces 3d of equal but opposite inclination to the under faces to allow the wedges to be employed in an inverted disposition in the complementary, lower cross-head. Liners or shims 9 may be located between the sides of the cavity 2 and the wedges 3.
