Abstract

1332796 Workholders UNIGRIP MGF CO Ltd 9 Oct 1970 [24 Aug 1970] 40594/70 Heading B3B [Also in Division B4] A work-supporting or holding device comprises a body part 12 in blind bores of which are slidable plungers 16, the parts of the bores and a common interconnecting channel 14 backing up the plungers being filled with a substance in a plastic state. The device may be used for supporting an irregularly-shaped workpiece to be machined, or, in conjunction with a clamping device with jaws, to grip such a workpiece; alternatively, the device may be used as a gauging device or template. The device may take several different forms, some of which include pivoted levers associated with respective plungers, the levers being for engagement with a workpiece. The substance in its plastic state can be a wax e.g. beeswax or candlewax, or a heavy grease a "Plasticine" (Registered Trade Mark). Locking means can be provided for retaining the plungers in their positions and stop means can be provided to limit the degree of their movement outwardly of the body part. Outer ends of the plungers can be specially shaped and may be capped with plastics or brass.
