Abstract

1376337 Electro-photographic copier PITNEY-BOWES Inc 24 Nov 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 54657/71 Heading G2A Reciprocation of an original-bearing carriage 12 between home and transfer stations, with illumination at a stationary station during the home return stroke (to the right as shown), is effected by means of a reciprocatory endless chain 94 having a pin 116 co-operating with slotted member 118b and bifurcated member 120a, depending from the carriage, to provide a lost motion coupling at the end of each stroke and with switch-actuating sensing members 140 and 140a at the end of each stroke to reverse the direction of movement of chain 94 or terminate the movement at the home station. Carriage drive chain 94 is driven by a copy drive chain 52 through a transmission 82 (and intermediate chain 86) having forward, reverse and neutral positons and operated by solenoids 186 and 182 energized on sensing of means 140 and 140a. The carriage is driven through the forward stroke at a faster rate than through the return stroke. Simultaneous engagement of forward and reverse gears is mechanically and electrically prevented. During the forward stroke, a tab 190 depending from the carriage triggers a feed switch 64 to operate the copy feed rollers 28 and, after a delay by means of timing device 60, the illumination lamp and charger. During the return stroke, an arm 210 (adjustable for length of copy sheet desired) depending from the carriage triggers a knife switch 66 to terminate operation of copy feed rollers 28 and cut the copy material.
