Abstract

1430155 Photo-copying machines W ZINDLER [trading as LUMOPRINT ZINDLER KG] 9 April 1973 [20 April 1972] 16947/73 Heading G2A A copying machine for producing a copy or copies from an original, comprises a reciprocally movable carriage 23 for supporting an original carriage drive means having an endless circulating chain 30, means for uncoupling the carriage from the drive at end positions of its reciprocating stroke, and control means actuated by elements, fixed to the chain, as a result of further movement of the chain after the carriage is uncoupled for controlling the feeding of copy sheets through the machine. The carriage 23 is driven on rails 22 over a scanning aperture 24. The light is directed along a light tunnel 25, 26 to an exposure aperture 10 for the copy material. The carriage has a slide block 34 in which is mounted on rails 37, 38 a guide 35 having a vertical slot 36. The length of the slot is greater than the distance between the horizontal sections of the drive chain 30 which passes around sprockets 31, 33. A pin 41 carried by the chain is received in the slot 36 and, when the guide is coupled to the block, moves the carriage reciprocally along the rails. The guide 35 is coupled to the block 34 by engaging one of two spring-biased levers 42, 43 pivotally mounted at 44 and 45 respectively. When the carriage reaches one end of its stroke an uncoupling key 56 engages-lever 43 pivoting it out of engagement with guide 35. Thus the carriage stops and the guide moves along rails 37, 38 as the pin 41-is is carried by the chain 30 around sprocket wheel 32. A similar uncoupling key 57 is provided at the other end of the carriage stroke to uncouple lever 42. At the start of a copying cycle a motor drives the chain, however the carriage is at one end of its stroke and is therefore uncoupled. The chain also carries two pins 58, 59 and as pin 58 passes round sprocket 32 it engages cams 60, 61 on a driving disc 33 mounted coaxially with sprocket 32. Pin 59 projects from the chain in the opposite direction and actuates two switches which switch a charging device 9 and light source into the circuit. The pin 58, and also pin 41 rotate the disc 33, which rotates drive-shaft 69 A gear-wheel 79, mounted on shaft 69, rotates and drives a chain to rotate roller 82 and withdraw a sheet of copy paper from the cassette 4 and feed it to rollers 6. The copy sheet is then fed past an exposure station 10 in synchronism with the movement of the carriage, which is recoupled to the drive, and hence the movement of the original past the scanning aperture 24. Several copies of a single original may be produced by setting a disc 109, Fig. 6, which prevents a stop entering the path of movement of the carriage until the selected number of copies has been made. When the stop is contacted by the carriage it stops the motor which drives the chain.
