The body preferably comprises 80 to 98% by weight carbon fibres and 2 to 20% by weight bihder. The composition may be firstly shaped, cured and then located in an ingot mould or head box. Alternatively a composition comprising a carbon fibre precursor and binder may be moulded in situ in an ingot mould or head box and carbonized in situ using an inert atmosphere.
