Abstract

1375051 Building ships' hulls ISHIKAWAJIMA-HARIMA JUKOGYO KK 11 Jan 1972 1280/72 Heading B7S A hull is constructed section by section using three work units which run on rails within the hull under construction and which successively carry out construction operations through the activity of workmen and equipment carried by the units. The first unit 1 runs on rails 6 and itself has rails 9 on which a mast 10 runs. Staging carried by a mast 13 and extensible staging carried by the mast 10 are used for welding side shells and longitudinal bulkheads. The second work unit 2 also runs on the rails 6 and carries laterally adjustable masts 32 on which arms 35 are vertically movable. Stagings 38 running on the arms 35 are used for erecting and welding struts 37. Rails 42 are laid on the uppermost struts and the third work unit 3 then runs on those rails. Adjustable stagings 45 are used for completing the upper deck of the hull.
