Abstract

1374507 Continuous-rod cut-off AMP Inc 16 Nov 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53069/72 Heading A2C A continuous cigarette rod B is first cut into multiple cigarette length segments and these segments are then further cut into single cigarette lengths S while remaining in alignment and in motion with the continuous rod B. The cutter comprises two (or more) blades 13, 14 mounted for rotation about an axis oblique to the longitudinal axis of the rod B. The blades 13, 14 angularly offset by 180‹ from each other relative to their axis of rotation, blade 14 cutting double length segments for subsequent bisection by blade 13 into single lengths S. The rod B is guided by a fixed intermediate tube 30 and two reciprocable cutting guide tubes 17. The tubes 17 are each supported by long leaf springs (20, 21) to the frame of the machine in known manner, and are reciprocated separately by two crank mechanisms 28, 124 and 29, 224 respectively in out of phase syncronism.
