Abstract

1374441 Phenyl formamidines OIBAGEIGYAG 26 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970 28 June 1971] 40155/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein R 1 is CH 3 and R 2 is (C 2 -C 4 ) alkyl or R 1 is C 2 H 5 and R 2 is (C 3 -C 4 ) alkyl, R 3 is halogen, R 4 is (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl; and inorganic or organic acid salts thereof. They may be obtained by reacting (1) a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula in which the formyl group may be acetalized with C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups, in the presence of SOCl 2 , COCl 2 , POCl 3 ; PCl 3 , PCl 5 , (CH 3 ) 2 SO 4 or (2) a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula R 1 -NH-R 2 wherein R 5 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, at a temperature from 0‹ to 200‹ C.; (3) a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula at a temperature from 0‹ to 200‹ C.; or (4) reacting a compound of the formula with a halide of the formula Hal-R 1 . Examples are given for the production of the compounds. They are useful as insecticides or acaricides and may be admixed with other insecticides or with fungicides, bactericides, fungistatic agents, bacteriostatic agents, nematocides or herbicides. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,039,930.
