Abstract

1374245 Photo-flash control circuit PONDER & BEST Inc 24 Aug 1971 [24 Aug 1970 23 Sept 1970 8 March 1971 9 April 1971 11 June 1971] 39704/71 Heading G2A A flash limiting circuit is arranged to terminate discharge through a flash-tube 3 without wasting the charge still remaining on the storage capacitor 1. In Fig. 1, a capacitor turn off circuit 8, 10 is connected in parallel with tube 3 and a thyristor 6, closing a camera synch, contact 301 turns on thyristor 6 to discharge capacitor 1 through tube 3. A photo-electrically controlled integrating circuit 203, 204 turns on a thryristor 10 whereby a reverse current flows through and blocks thyristor 6 to deionize the tube. Fig. 2 (not shown), includes an additional capacitor (19) to accelerate the blocking of the thyristor 6. Fig. 2 also includes a "flash ready" indicator lamp (14). In Fig. 8 a parallel switch 85 is closed to short out tube 3 and the resulting current surge from capacitor 1 sets up magnetic fields in coil springs 86 sufficient to separate contacts 87 of a series switch 82'for a time sufficient for tube 3 to deionize. Fig. 9 (not shown) shows an alternative series switch in which a capacitor (93) discharges through a relay coil to hold the relay contact (91) open whilst the tube deionizes.
