Abstract
1374230 Braking yarn packages W H K PRODUCTS Ltd 24 May 1973 24925/73 Heading D1J A yarn package 14, and a drum 16 are both freely rotatable on a spindle 12. A spring in the drum 16 couples the package 14 to the drum 16. A friction pad 17 on a load carrying arm 18 rests on the drum 16. In use, as yarn is drawn from the package 14, the spring is wound up until the force in the spring overcomes the friction between the pad 17 and the drum 16. As the package is unwound, if the yarn temporarily becomes slack, the coil spring will unwind by an amount sufficient to take up the slack. The arm 18 is pivoted at one end and as unwinding proceeds the pivot point is gradually displaced such that the arm 18 and pad 17 are displaced around the drum 16 in a manner reducing the braking effect exerted by the pad 17. As shown in Fig. 1 the arm 18 is pivoted on a slide bar 19 that is moved axially by threaded means driven by gear wheels 22, 23. Stop motion. When the machine is to be stopped a further brake 28 is applied. The brake 28 is on an arm 26 pivoted at one end on the frame 10. The other end rests on a spring 30 on a rod 27. Rod 27 is coupled by a cable 32 to an arm 34 that can be rocked by a piston 43, the piston 43 being actuated when the machine is stopped. The amount by which the arm 34 can be rocked is governed by a cam 36 that is rotated by means 39 geared to the axially displaceable slide bar 19.
