Abstract

1373994 Banding machines CROSFIELD BUSINESS MACHINES Ltd 16 Jan 1973 [18 Jan 1972] 2394/72 Heading B8C In a banding machine, sheets 50 such as banknotes are transferred from suction drum 2 by stripper plate 3 to build up a pack in pocket 1, the plate 3 then pushing the pack across the path of a continuous thermoplastics banding tape 4 which is then guided behind the pack by a vertically reciprocable finger 8 carrying an electrode such that the overlying portions of the tape 4 behind pack 4 may be welded by radio-frequency dielectric heating. The electrode is shaped to form a weakened seam which is broken by the weight of the banded pack leaving a continuous run of tape 4 for the next banding cycle. Movement of plate 3, finger 8 and retraction of a backing plate 25, are controlled by a cam 61 through linkages such as 42. The cam also controls the welding operation.
