Abstract

1373711 Electrode for metal bromide battery ZITO CO Inc 3 Jan 1972 [25 Jan 1971] 171/72 Heading H1B [Also in Division C3] A secondary battery has electrodes 14, 18 comprising copper screens 32, 38 surrounded by protective layers 28, 34, 40, 42 of an electroconductive material comprising carbon particles dispersed in a mixture of polyvinylidene fluoride or polychlorotrifluoroethylene and polyethylene. The electrolyte is an aqueous solution of zinc, nickel, cadmium, tin, lead or copper bromide. The surface 44 of the anode is sandblasted to aid electrodeposition of the metal during charging and the cathode has a bromine entrapment layer 24 which is similar to the electroconductive material protecting the electrodes but containing bromine adsorbent carbon particles. Exposed portions of the electrodes and of barrier layer 28 are coated with a protective film of fluorocarbon polymer and the battery case is of polyethylene to which the protective layers on the electrodes may readily be bonded.
