Abstract

1373183 Clips UNITED CARR Ltd 20 March 1973 [21 March 1972] 13131/72 Heading E2B A clip 10 for securing a cylindrical shaft 20 in a bore 21 in a member 22 and resist relative rotation between the shaft 20 and the member 22 comprises a locating portion 11 adapted to locate the clip relative to the member 22 and an arm adapted, in use, to extend into the bore 21 between the wall of the bore and the shaft 20, the arm being curved about its longitudinal axis and includes two generally parallel, longitudinally extending retaining edges 17 (16, Fig. 2, not shown) adapted to bitingly engage the shaft to resist relative rotation thereof relative to the clip 10. Prongs 15 may be sheared out of the locating portion 11 to dry into the member 22 and hence locate the clip in position. Alternatively the prongs may be on the arm (Fig. 2, not shown). Two opposed clips may be used as shown, or one clip with the opposite wall of the bore forming a reaction surface (Figs. 7, 8 not shown). The reaction surface may be flat (Fig. 7) or curved (Fig. 8) and in the latter case a groove is provided along the wall of the bore to accommodate the arm of the clip. In a further embodiment (Figs. 10 to 13 not shown) the clip comprises two opposed arms stamped out of a substantially flat rectangular plate, the member being formed on its upper surface with pegs cooperating with the sides of the plate to position the clip. One of the arms may be omitted or more than two arms may be provided.
