Abstract

1372802 Depositing a metal grid R C A CORPORATION 17 May 1972 [27 May 1971] 23091/72 Heading C7B [Also in Division H1] A grid for electron guns comprises a solid frame 22 with circular areas 24 having apertures 26 and joined by bus bars 28. The grid is made by depositing a film of conducting material on an insulating substrate, removing portions of the film to form a master pattern, electro-plating metal on to the pattern then peeling off the plated metal. The conducting material may be W, Al, Cr, Ta, stannous oxide or indium sesquioxide oxide. The electro-plated metal may be Cu, Ni, Ag, Au, or Pt. The substrate may be glass and the master pattern produced by photo etching with ceric sulphate, nitric acid mixture. The film of conducting material may be cleared in H 2 O 2 + H 2 SO 4 . For Nickel, the plating solution comprises 20oz/gal Ni ions, 0.9oz/gal chloride ions, 3.4oz/gal boric acid and a brightener-stress reliever to produce pH 3.2-4.2. The temperature may be 55-60‹C. and the cement density 60 Amp/ft<SP>2</SP>. Specification 1336615 is referred to.
