Abstract

1371794 Cigarettes; tobacco-smoke filters BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO Ltd 16 Aug 1972 [6 Sept 1971] 41503/71 Heading A2C A tobacco-smoke filter or filter section comprises a wrapping 5 bounding a smoke passage and a disc 8 not exceeding 2mm in thickness and made of a packed layer of particles not exceeding 500 micron in diameter, the disc 8 being imperforate and so disposed across said passage that the smoke drawn therethrough is constrained to pass through the filtering material of the said layer. The particles may take the form of microspheres or small beads of glass, metal or plastics, and may simply be compressed or compacted or may be bonded to one another and, if required, to a supporting disk or disks. As shown, the filter may also comprise a conventional cellulose acetate filter 3, be provided with ventillation holes 4, and be attached to a cigarette 2.
