Abstract

1330936 Mouthpiece cigarettes; filters BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO CO Ltd 28 Sept 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 45122/71 Headings A2C and A2M A filter and air inlet device for a cigarette or cigarette holder comprises a tube 11 with openings 17 and a slidable piston 13, preferably of nylon or polyethylene, with perforations 14 serving as a filter and openings 16 which, in response to movement of the piston towards the smoker due to increasing pressure drop as the perforations 14 become clogged in use, are brought into register with the openings 17 to admit air. As shown the openings 16, 17 are triangular and circular, respectively, but other shapes, e.g. rectangular, may be used. The device may have a conventional cellulose acetate filter at either end or inside the piston.
