Abstract

1349217 Cigarettes: cigars &c BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO CO Ltd 17 July 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 33372/72 Heading A2C A ventilated cigarette includes a filter plug 22 wrapped with a uniformly porous wrap 26 and having at least a portion of the enclosed filter overwrapped with a uniformly porous tipping envelope 24, the envelope 24 and wrap 26 being adhered together by an adhesive along preselected portions 33 of their contiguous surfaces whereby the remaining contiguous surfaces 30, 31 or 32 are adhesive free, whereby the filter has a ventilation index of from 0.5 to 20 cm/sec. The ventilation index is defined as the volume of air entering the ventilation region or regions per second per (U.S. Federal Trade Commission) standard puff divided by the total area of the ventilation regions. The invention is also applicable to cigars, cigarillos and cheroots.
