Abstract

1371600 Paper ASSOCIATED PORTLAND CEMENT MFRS Ltd 11 Oct 1971 [9 July 1970 11 Aug 1970] 33455/70 and 38693/ 70 Heading D2B In a process for making paper from an aqueous suspension of papermaking fibres and a starch precipitate formed by bringing starch in solution and/or colloidal suspension in water in the absence of papermaking fibres to a neutral or alkaline pH in the presence of a multivalent cation capable of forming an insoluble complex with starch at said pH, the pH of the aqueous suspension of papermaking fibres and starch precipitate is adjusted to a pH below 7 before draining. The pH may be adjusted by the addition of alum. A filler may be incorporated in the suspension. Preferably, the starch precipitate is formed in the presence of the filler. Reference is made to Patent No. 1282551.
