Abstract

1371583 Electric timepieces BERNARD GOLAY SA 25 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 44167/72 Heading G3T A mechanical oscillator, includes a coil and a permanent magnet, whose oscillation frequency is changed by the change in energy level of a train of chopped square pulses controlled by the relative phase angle between the voltage generated by the oscillator above a pre-set level and a pilot frequency f, the oscillator frequency being further modified by means repelling it elastically when the amplitude of oscillation exceeds a pre-set angle. Three square wave signals, 17, 18, 19, are supplied having frequencies of 2 Hz, 1024 Hz and 512 Hz respectively. Signals 18 and 19 are connected to NOT-AND gate 20 the output of which has logic level 1 for ¥ of the cycle and logic level 0 for “ of the cycle, this signal being fed to one input of NOT-AND gate 21 and through inverter 24 to one input of NOT-AND gate 22 and the other inputs receiving respectively the 2 Hz signal direct and through the inverter 23. The output of 21 is a series of pulses with a mark/space ratio of 3 : 1 while the output of 22 has a mark/space ratio of 1 : 3. These signals appear alternatively at a rate of 2 Hz and are connected to one input of NOT-OR gate 26 the other input of which is supplied with a 2 Hz signal derived from the oscillator coil 3 via a level-detecting transistor 30 and inverted by inverter 28. Only when both of these signals are logic 0 level is the output of 26 logic 1 level and this output is used to control transistor 27 and hence the energy fed to coil 3. Any phase difference between the two 2 Hz signals will change the energy fed to coil 3 so as to reduce the phase difference.
