Abstract

1,119,020. Gunn effect devices. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 17 Nov., 1966 [17 Dec., 1965], No. 51534/66. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H1] In a pulse generator comprising a Gunn effect oscillator subjected to a D.C. bias below its critical level, an input pulse having a rise time exceeding the switching time of the oscillator is applied to the oscillater to increase the bias above the critical level so that an output pulse is generated having a duration determined by the transit time of the high-field zone in the oscillator. The input pulse may be applied between the biasing contacts of the oscillator or to an insulated control electrode located between the contacts. If the input pulse is of sufficient length it will generate a train of output pulses. A train of input pulses having a frequency less than the frequency of the oscillator generates a train of output pulses of corresponding frequency.
