Abstract

1371223 Manhole covers R DUMORTIER 18 Nov 1971 [6 Jan 1971] 53599/71 Heading E1G A circular manhole cover 3 seated on an internal radial flange 5 of a frame 2 has one or more radial lugs 14 each cooperating with an undercut notch 8 in a peripheral wall 7 of the frame to provide a bayonet type interlock. Each notch 8 is open-topped and has its side walls defined by an undercut projection 10 providing the bayonet slot, and the ramp 13 which cooperates with a lug 14 to turn the cover into locking position under its own weight. The lugs 14 are accommodated in opentopped recesses 15 of the frame. When the road 23 is resurfaced the effective frame height is raised by superposing one or more spacer rings, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) having upper and lower interlock formations corresponding to the lugs 14 and notches 8.
