1370722 Beam apparatus for treating webs HEBERLEIN & Co AG 20 March 1972 [25 March 1971 17 June 1971] 12843/72 Heading D1L Apparatus for the treatment of webs wound on a perforated beam comprises a machine frame on which is fixed a treatment chamber by means of two rotatable bearing members extending into the chamber and which carry a replaceable beam which is inserted into the chamber by a beam support device. The beam is rotated by at least one of the bearings which is driven by motor drive means mounted on the frame. The beam is preferably inserted into the chamber by arranging for one of the bearings together with part of the wall of the chamber to swing open. In this case the beam during insertion is only positioned on one bearing but supported at the other end until the pivoted bearing can be swung back into position and engaged. The support device may be a drivable carriage or a crane hook and when the latter, positioning of the beam may be assisted by a sensor device such as a mercury switch of the spirit level type. As shown in the figure the exchangeable chamber 2 is fixed by mountings 3 on the self-supporting machine frame 1 and bearings 4 on the frame 1 engage with both sides of chamber 2 receive beam 5 which is perforated to permit treatment of material roll 5a, by liquid supplied to the beam during its rotation. To permit insertion of the beam 5 into the chamber wall 2a of chamber 2 is swung away together with bearing 4. Driving device rotates beam 5 via bearing 4. In Figure 2 (not shown) the support is a carriage. Figures 4 and 5 (not shown) show respectively a crane for chamber substitution and a support in the form of a crane hook.
