Abstract
1,120,674. Sewing machines. CURTIS & MARBLE MACHINE CO. 23 Jan., 1967 [27 May, 1966], No. 3308/67. Heading D1G. Apparatus comprises a track mounted adjacent a scray, a depending carriage movably supported on said track, a motor-driven sewing machine mounted on the carriage and having a bed and overhanging arm projecting towards the scray, and means for moving the carriage along the track. Standards 7, positioned adjacent an end of a scray for processing material drawn from a roll supported at said end, supports a track 14 movably supporting a depending carriage 10 on rollers 20. The main shaft 48 of a sewing machine (46), mounted on carriage 10, is connected by a belt 88 to the shaft 54 of a motor (52) mounted on carriage 10. The bed (50) and overhanging arm (47) of the sewing machine project towards the scray. Shaft 54 is connected by a belt 90 to a shaft 58 journalled on carriage 10, and shaft 58 is connected by gearing 64, 68 to a sprocket 84 journalled on carriage 10. Sprocket 84 and an idler sprocket 86, journalled on carriage 10, engage an endless chain 112, one end of which engages idler sprockets 102, 106 mounted at one end of track 14, and the other end of which engages a sprocket 110 drivable by a motor 12 mounted at the other end of track 14. Brackets 33, mounted on the standards 7, adjustably support plates 34 which carry respective pin boards 8 and 9, and respective normally-open microswitches 36 and 38. Initially, carriage 10 is positioned to the right, whereby a cam bar 146 thereon opens microswitch 38, and a two-way switch 126, mounted on a bracket 33, connects microswitch 38 in circuit with motor 12, while the leading end 156 of a fresh roll of fabric is secured on the pin boards 8, 9. The trailing end 154 of the roll being processed is, after being finally exposed, also secured on the pin boards 8, 9, and switch 126 is actuated to connect microswitch 36 in circuit with motor (52), whereby the sewing machine operates and carriage 10 moves leftwards for stitching the ends 154, 156 together. A cam bar 144 on carriage 10 opens microswitch 36 when the sewing is complete. Switch 126 is then actuated to connect microswitch 38 in circuit with motor 12, whereby the latter operates to move carriage 10 rightwards until cam bar 146 opens microswitch 38.
