Abstract
1370559 Polymerisation catalyst SOLVAY & CIE 24 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 54342/72 Heading B1E [Also in Division C3] A catalyst component containing TiCl 3 is prepared by reducing TiCl 4 with a metal of Groups Ia, IIa, IIb or IIIb of the Mendeleef Periodic Table to give a double chloride of the metal and Ti which is treated with a complexant capable of forming a complex with the chloride of the reducing metal and reacted with a liquid medium containing TiCl 4 to give a solid which is separated from its reaction medium. The preferred complexants have the formula R 2 O, R 2 S, RSH, R 3 N, R 2 NH or RNH 2 where the R's are the same or different C 1 -C 15 hydrocarbon radicals. In the examples 3TiCl 3 AlCl 3 , derived from TiCl 4 reduced with Al, is reacted with di-isoamylether, di-n-butylether, di-n-butylamine or di-n-butylsulphide then with a solution of TiCl 4 in n hexane or is reacted with di-isoamylether and the TiCl 4 solution together.
