Abstract

1516257 Polymerisation catalyst STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 31 Aug 1976 [8 Sept 1975] 35965/76 Heading B1E [Also in Division C3] A process for the preparation of a catalyst component which, when combined with an organoaluminium compound, may be used in the polymerisation of alpha olefins, comprises grinding titanium trichloride (i.e. 3TiCl 3 .AlCl 3 ), obtained by reducing titanium tetrachloride using metallic aluminium, in the absence of a modifier and oxygen at 45- 70‹C for a period of time sufficient to produce a pulverulent catalyst component of enhanced activity.
