Abstract

1370171 Couplings for pile sections B E H HO 19 Sept 1972 43418/72 Heading F2G [Also in Division E2] Two concrete pile sections are joined by a pair of spigots 10 mounted on one section 22 cooperating with a pair of sockets 17 located in the other section 21, the two spigots 10 being deflected during insertion, but springing back into place when the two pile sections abut so that the edges 16 of plates 14 co-operate with abutments 19 to prevent separation of the pile sections. The spigots 10 comprise strips 11 of steel provided with anchoring means and the sockets 17 are formed of tubes of rectangular section with angle-members 19 secured at one end and also provided with anchoring means 20. The pile section 21 has recesses 23 to enable the sections to be separated if required. An epoxy resin mortar may be placed on one of the abutting faces of the sections, and filler pieces may be inserted into the sockets 17 after joining.
