Abstract

1370122 Extruded cable BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd 18 Feb 1972 [19 Feb 1971] 5007/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division H1] A single or multicore cable has a conductive core insulated by an extruded layer of synthetic plastics material or rubber and a dielectric screen comprising a thin inner extruded layer of conductive or semi-conductive plastics or rubber, firmly bonded to the insulating layer and a second outer extruded layer of similar material in contiguous, intimate and electrical contact with the inner layer but not bonded thereto so that when the cable is bared, e.g. for jointing, the outer dielectric layer may be stripped away, and the inner layer removed easily with e.g. an abrasive. The insulating materials described include rubber and similar known synthetic materials, electrically conductive material being added to the material required for the dielectric screens. A method of manufacture is described wherein the cable is completely formed on passage through the extrusion line and includes discharge scanning of the core after application of the dielectric inner layer. An example of the invention applied to a 10 kV polythene insulated cable is given.
