Abstract

1369954 Packages M DIAMANT 30 March 1973 [30 March 1972] 15739/73 Heading B8C A protective wrapper for solid articles of varying shape and size, the wrapper being made of heat-sealable material, sealingly welded, to tightly surround the article, is characterized in that a pulling member 16 is joined to the wrapper at at least two attachment points in a manner such that, when a pulling force is applied to the member 16 in a direction away from the packed member the wrapper is forceably opened by bringing the attachment points closer together. As shown in Figs. 1, 2 a wrapper 1 is formed of two transparent, thin, plastics foils 2, 3 which are welded together by a peripheral seal 4, 5, 6, 7 to enclose a pen 12, two pulling members 16, 16 being formed by two incisions 8, 9, which may initially consist of perforations, and which extend between attachment points 10, 11. When the members 16, 16 are pulled apart, Fig. 2, the upper end of the package is contracted axially so that the upper end 13 of the pen 12 penetrates a perforation 17 below the top weld 7 and protrudes, for easy withdrawal, from the wrapper. In a generally similar wrapping arrangement, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), a circular object (14) is enclosed within a circular wrapper, the incisions (8, 9) being of arcuate form. In a further arrangement, for a clinical thermometer (29), Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), the incisions (25, 25) are formed in the foils (19, 20) externally of a U-shaped line seam (21), the two foils (19, 20) being longitudinally displaced to provide at one end, a tab (22) and a projection (24), and, at the other end, a tab (23). As shown in Fig. 7 a single pulling member consists of a strip 31 joined to the exterior of the sleeve at attachment points 32. Several pulling strips may be attached in a similar manner and a number of sleeves are joined together, in a row, by intermediate tearseams, or welds, (33), Fig. 8 (not shown). The pulling members may be in the form of side fins which project from the side edges of the sleeve. A series of wrappers joined to form a web may be stored in reel form. If a hermetically-sealed package is desired the perforation 17, Fig. 1, is covered by a peelable strip, not shown. -The incisions 25, 25 may extend along the entire length of the sleeve.
