Abstract

1,263,761. Flexible bags; packaging. TCF OF CANADA Ltd. 12 Feb., 1969 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 7704/69. Headings B8C and B8K. A bag or package with a reusable closure has one or more bands of bendable, inelastic reinforcing material fixed along its length. As shown, a sheet of material 11 is formed into a tube having a seam 14 enclosing a metal wire 17 sealed between tapes 18. After pleating the bag, or package sides, the base 20 and top are folded and secured by adhesive or a heat seal; the top may be folded successively after partial removal of contents to form a closure, the folds being held in place by the metal wire 17. Bags or packages may be produced by extruding a seamless tube or by forming a seamed tube, simultaneously attaching along its length the wire 17, severing the tube in bag lengths, and folding and sealing one end of each length. Alternatively, a tube may be heat-sealed and/or crimped at intervals, and severed adjacent one edge of each crimp or seal. Filling material may be introduced between successive crimp seals and each crimp severed centrally, to produce filled and sealed bags or packages. Plastics, paper or cellulose may be employed, and several metal or dead-folding plastics wires or strips attached.
