Abstract

Gas analysis. - A portable gas-analysis apparatus, more particularly for use in determining the amount of carbon dioxide in flue gases, comprises a reciprocating pump b, c into the space b of which a sample of the gas to be tested is drawn, a chamber g containing an absorbent for the constituent to be determined and communicating on the one hand through a valve with the pump cylinder and on the other with the rear side of the piston, and with a closed chamber b provided with a pressure gauge i. When making a test, either the increase in pressure as recorded by the gauge is noted, or the amount by which the piston of the pump must be retracted in order to restore the initial pressure is determined. The movements of the sample of gas through the apparatus are controlled by a rotatable valve disk o, the passages in which are arranged so that the chamber h can be opened to the atmosphere, and the pump cylinder b put into communication with a chamber f filled with suitable desiccating-material through which the sample of gas is drawn. Preferably, the parts b, f, g of the apparatus are in a part of the case which is filled with water; and the case itself is covered with a material having a low heat-conductivity.
