Abstract

1369327 Fuel injection pumps YANMAR DIESEL ENGINE CO Ltd 4 Aug 1972 36530/72 Heading F1A A fuel injection pump comprises a plunger 1 reciprocable in a cylinder 2 to pump fuel past a delivery valve 4 into a delivery outlet 12 and an adjustably spring-loaded by-pass valve 7 connected via a passage 6 between the delivery outlet 12 and an inlet 11, the outlet 12 being connected to the by-pass passage 6 by passages 10 in the delivery valve 4. The by-pass valve allows part of the pump delivery to return to the inlet 11 thus controlling the actual delivery to the outlet 12. The by-pass valve 7 also opens to reduce the pressure in the outlet 12 when, at the end of the stroke, the delivery valve 4 is closed by its spring 5. This prevents drip from the injection valve (not shown) connected to the outlet 12.
