Abstract
1368681 Vibrators D R PHILIBERT 5 Jan 1972 [6 Jan 1971] 351/72 Heading F2X [Also in Division H2] A vibrating motor has a spindle 2 at the centre of which is keyed the armature 3 of the motor, working in conjunction with a field magnet 4, and at the ends of which are grooved portions 2a on each of which two eccentric masses 5 are keyed. The spindle 2 is carried in bearings fitted in two housings 6, 7 arranged on either side of the armature 3. In the housing 6 the spindle 2 is supported by a roller bearing 8 and a ball bearing 9 of the thrust type, the inner races of which bearings are wedged against each other by a central distance piece 10 bearing against the armature 3 and by an end distance piece 12 against which the masses 5 are pressed by the force resulting from the fastening means 13 for these masses. The outer races of the bearings are wedged against each other by the abutment surfaces 14a, 15a of caps 14, 15 fitted on either side of the housing 6. Each of these caps has packing rings 16 which are in contact with the distance pieces 10, 12. In the housing 7 there is only a roller bearing 17, the absence of a ball bearing corresponding to bearing 9 being compensated for by distance pieces 18. The two housings 6, 7 are pressed against the ends of a tubular casing 20 by draw bolts whose ends are braced against radial lugs 23 (only one shown) on each of the housings 6, 7. The casing 20 communicates via an opening B with a connection box 24 joined by mating recesses to the casing 20, inside which box the conductors of the supply cable 25 are connected to terminals 26. The box 24 has a tubular socket 27 through which the cable 25 extends, being sealed by a gasket 33 which is forced against a tapered shoulder 29 in the socket by a screwed sleeve 32. The sleeve 32 is locked with respect to the cable 25 by being wedged by a two-part collar 34 having hook-like projections 35 which engage in a groove 36 in the socket wall. The central chamber A within the casing 20 is perfectly sealed and consequently any explosion occurring inside the chamber A is incapable of spreading to the outside. Such flameproof vibrating motors are frequently used for operating sieves, hoppers, conveyers, &c. in places where explosive atmospheres can form.
