1368642 Filamentary structures GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 28 July 1971 [29 July 1970] 35393/71 Headings D1K and D1T An oriented filamentary composite article is made by applying a binder, e.g. of polymer resin, to an assembly of filamentary material, e.g. carbon or graphite fibre 13; a flexible porous mould 10 is applied to the composite mass and compressed radially by the application of tensile force to the mould; excess resin is removed, and the binder is cured. The mould may be a woven, knitted or braided sleeve of glass or carbon fibre or of metal wire, or may be a strip of fabric wound around the mass. The binder may be an epoxy resin. By applying lateral pressure to the mass during curing an article of desired crosssection, e.g. flat, may be produced. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1305198.
