Abstract

1291160 Moulded laminates HAUCK MFG CO 28 July 1970 36502/70 Headings B5A and B5N [Also in Division F1] A moulded article, e.g. an inlet half of a casing for a centrifugal airblower, is produced by treating a mould surface with a release agent, e.g. modified silicone elastomer, applying a first coating of an elastomer on the treated mould surface, curing the elastomer just long enough to produce a tack-free surface, applying a second coating of liquid elastomer to the tack-free surface and depositing thereon discrete bonding fibres, applying a thin layer of catalyzed synthetic resin to the exposed surface of the fibre layer before the second elastomer coating completely solidifies and rolling to remove entrapped air, applying additional synthetic resin and reinforcing fibrous material and curing. The first coating of elastomer may be reinforced while still liquid by laying a porous web of reinforcing material, e.g. a woven fabric, on to its surface. The elastomer may be a polyurethane, butadiene-styrene copolymer, polybutadiene or ethylene-propylene copolymer, the bonding fibres and reinforcing fibres may be of glass, cotton, hemp, polyamide, viscose rayon or metallic wire and the synthetic resin may be a polyester, epoxy, polyamide, phenolic or polystyrene resin. Curing may be effected at room temperature or elevated temperatures and post curing effected out of the mould.
