Abstract

1368639 Intermediate thread storage; open end spinning; driving drums ZINSER-TEXTILMASCHINEN GmbH 17 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 53477/71 Headings DID D1F and DIJ [Also in Division F2] Thread Storage Device. An intermediate thread storage device 15 comprises a fixed array of at least two driven or freely rotating cylindrical rollers 43 about which the thread passes helically the amount of thread stored being determined by a flyer 36 which is maintained under torque by a weighted cable and drum assembly 33, 34, 35. The shaft 32 bearing the flyer 36 is threaded through a fixed bushing 30 so that rotation thereof also produces axial movement. A control switch 21 activated at a maximum limiting amount of thread storage controls the rate of supply or removal of thread to prevent over-loading. Winding Unit. The switch 21 typically controls a drum winding unit 17, 18, 19, 20 in which a slit drum 18 deposits thread on a cross-wound package 17. The control part 20 may. be a clutch to give intermittent drive to the drum 18 or a selective gear drive. A conical friction clutch, Fig. 4, may be selectively kept in permanent engagement or intermittently disengaged by a reciprocating rod 61 to give effectively slower winding. The rod 61 reciprocates continuously and may be connected to the clutch mechanism by a pin 59 under the control of an electromagnet 60. Alternatively a dog clutch, Fig. 8 may be employed in which a control member is advanced to knock the clutch out of engagement once per revolution. In another embodiment Figs. 10, 11 the drum 18"' is freely fitted about a permanently driven shaft 50 to which it is connected by an epicyclic gear train associated with two further shafts 77, 78 driven at differing constant speeds which are selectively engaged with the epicyclic gears by a friction wheel 79 under the influence of the control switch 21. Open-End Spinning Device. The thread storage device of this specification is particularly suitable for use with an open end spinning machine, Fig. 1, in which the reserve length of thread is used to facilitate piecing up by back feeding the end into the spinning chamber 12. An ends down is detected by a sensor 23 which causes a delivery roller 13 to be disengaged from and a reverse winding roller 22 to be engaged with the thread 24 and thus return the thread end.
