Abstract
1365299 Pressure vessel closure K S HEMINGWAY 28 Feb 1972 [1 Dec 1970] 56933/70 Heading F2P A closure member 15 is held in sealing engagement with a seating 12 around an opening 11 in a pressure vessel or pipe 10 by releasable wedging means 25 disposed between the member 15 and radially inwardly directed abutments 14 attached to the vessel or pipe 15. As shown, the closure member 15 includes peripheral projections 17 which may be brought into registration with the abutments 14 which comprise spaced lugs. The surfaces 18 of the projections 17 which face the lugs 14 are inclined to the general plane of the member 15. The wedging means 25, Fig. 5, are carried on a wheel 20 having spokes 23 radiating from a central hub 22 which is received rotatably on a pin 19 on the closure member 15. To effect firm closure, the member 15 is rotated to bring the projections 17 opposite the lugs 14 and the wheel 20 is rotated on the pin 19 so that the wedges 25 urge the projections away from the lugs 14 thus pressing a face 16 on the member 15 against the seating 12. In an alternative arrangement the faces 18 of the projections 17 are parallel to the face 16 and the lugs 14 have inclined surfaces. In this case the wheel 20 is placed on the pin with the inclined surfaces of the wedges 25 facing and engaging the lugs 14.
