Abstract

1364935 Railway vehicle track BUDD CO 29 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 60509/71 Heading B7L [Also in Division F2] A railway vehicle truck comprises two tubular side frame members 20 mounted on wheel-axle units 27 by a universal movement elastomeric spring support assembly comprising uniformly circumferentially spaced elastomeric pads 54 mounted between a ring 51 fast with an outer bearing race 42 of the axle and a housing 46, 47 secured to the frame member. The axles are provided with roller bearings 43 and inboardmounted disc brakes 28, 29. Tie-rods 60 mounted with universal movement between the frame members 20 allow vertical and longitudinal motion of the members but maintain the members at a fixed separation. Spider parts 21 secured to the frame members are loosely secured to a depending stub journal 22 of a bolster 23. Lateral stabilizing tie-bars 35 having universal couplings 36 to the bolster and controllable fluid spring couplings 38 with a vehicle body mounted thereon are provided, as are longitudinal stabilizing tie-bars 31 and vertical and lateral movement-damping shockabsorbers 33 and 34. The elastomeric pads 54 are located by studs 52 which pass through enlarged holes in the pads and are bonded to inner and outer arcuate plates 55 and 56. The pads are pre-compressed partly by bands 57 and partly by clamping together the housing parts 46 and 47.
