Abstract

1364860 Tricycles C E LONG 8 Oct 1971 46911/71 Heading B7E A two-passenger tricycle comprises a central frame member 10 supporting via a forked part 102 transverse members 84, 86 carrying axles supporting wheels 20, 22, wheel 22 being drivable via a chain 76 and change-speed gearing 78 by a pedal-operated crank 44 carrying a chain wheel 74 and rotatably mounted on a frame member 42 depending from member 10 which latter has a mounting 44 for a steerable front wheel 12. A transverse member 126 also fixed to member 10 carries at opposite ends frame members 128, 130 which support pedal cranks 62, 64 and handlebars 28, 30, only the latter having a connection 130 to the steerable wheel and brake-operating levers 146, 148 for rear-wheel brakes 154, 156, respectively. Members 84, 86 support saddle bearers 176, 178 on which saddles 24, 26 are adjustable fore-and-aft by detents operated by levers 186. The saddles have raised backs 188, 190 enabling the riders to apply horizontal thrust on the pedals. A console 166 on member 10 carries levers 168, 170 for operating the front brake and the change-speed gear, respectively. Lamp 202 may be mounted either as shown or on the front end face of member 10. It is stated that the central frame arrangement provides easy access for the riders to the saddles and pedals. The rear brakes are mounted on frame extensions 154 which carry rubber buffers on which the tricycle may be stored in a vertical position. The tricycle may have a motor driving wheel 20.
