Abstract

136,429. Amphlet, S. W. March 27,1919. Couplings, disconnectible; stufing-box joints. - A coupling for connecting the stem of a tyre valve to an inflator, of the kind in which a jointing rubber sleeve as c is compressed around the valve stem b by a cam-lever which effects the longitudinal movement of a containing socket a formed with a connexion as d for the inflator, is so constructed that the jointing-sleeve can be readily replaced when worn out. To effect this, the sleeve c is normally held within a holder e by an annular cupped pressure plate j held in place by a spring ring i, which is preferably split, and is held in a groove in the upper part of the holder e; or, in place of the spring ring, any other detachable holding-member may be used, such as a retaining-cap held in position by a bayonet-fastening. The sleeve c is compressed by moving the socket a by means of cams g on a lever f pivoted to the holder e and acting on a washer h arranged below the socket a.
