Abstract

1364206 Oil burner TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 15 Feb 1972 6897/72 Heading F4T A gun type oil burner has a barrel 10 for supplying air, a fuel nozzle 20 for supplying liquid fuel and a circular air plate assembly 28, 30 across the barrel 10 for controlling the flow of air through it, said air plate assembly 28, 30 being fixed coaxially and longitudinally within the barrel 10 by means of a relatively thin walled collar 44 of flexible sheet material disposed coaxially on the inner surface of the barrel 10 and tapered in the direction towards the downstream end of the barrel 10 and supported at its narrow end by a flange 48. The diameter of the air plate assembly 28, 30 is intermediate the maximum and minimum diameters of the tapered collar 44 and the taper angle is between 4 and 15 degrees so that the air plate assembly 28, 30 wedges in it at a predetermined position. The air plate assembly comprises two plates 28 and 30 held together by fasteners 32 and holes 36 at their periphery and holes 38 near their centre, movable relative to each other to alter the area of overlap of the sets of holes 36, 38 in the two plates 28, 30. The air plate assembly 28, 30 also carries the fuel nozzle 20 and ignition electrodes 26. The end 12 of the barrel 10 shown in Fig. 1 contains spirally arranged vanes 16 to induce a turbulent vortex in the gas flow.
