1363441 Yarn package DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORP 17 June 1971 [22 June 1970 23 Nov 1970] 28564/71 Heading B8M [Also in Division D1] A yarn package is formed about a vertically extending core 92, Fig. 7, by depositing on a package base 71, Fig. 2, an ascending series of generally heart shaped loops 93, each loop having a reflex angle 93<SP>1</SP> that is adjacent the core 92 and a portion 9311 that is adjacent the periphery of the package. As shown in Fig. 2, a yarn depositing whorl tube 22 rotates about an axis 20 that is offset with respect to the axis 35 of a turntable 34 that supports a package base 71. The reflex angle 93<SP>1</SP> is created by a fixed yarn deflector 76 that has a plough shape and serves to deflect the yarn from what would otherwise be a circular path. As the package builds up in height the turntable 34 is lowered by an arm 39, Fig. 5. When the package is complete a rotatable arm 54 moves the package 91 away from below the whorl tube 22 and moves an empty turntable 34<SP>1</SP> into position below the whorl tube 22. A package base 71 on the empty turntable 34<SP>1</SP> is then raised by the arm 39 and the winding of a fresh package commences. If a break should occur in the yarn being delivered through the whorl tube 22 a brake is actuated by controls (not shown) to stop the downward displacement of the turntable until the yarn delivery is resumed.
