Abstract

1362986 Mechanical switches SWF-SPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER GUSTAV RAU GmbH 5 Oct 1971 [10 Oct 1970] 46191/71 Heading H1N A steering column switch for motor vehicles having a control lever 24 with a handle 30 thereon comprises additional switching devices accommodated in the handle 30 which is rotatable round the control lever 24 into a plurality of rotary switching positions, the handle 30 being provided with bridges which interconnect stationary contacts located on a contact carrier 20 secured to the lever 24, at least one of said bridges engaging with a locating cam of the contact carrier 20 to act as a spring detent locating the angular switching positions of the handle 30. As shown, the handle 30 comprises two half-shells clipped together and carrying a resilient blade bridge 27 for circumferential interconnection of fixed contacts 10 and 29 (Fig. 5) and a transverse bridge 28 urged by a coil-spring 12 for selective end connection of fixed contacts 10, 11 and 29. The bridge 28 has its ends located in notches 31 (Fig. 2) such that it rotates with handle 30 and locates the angular positions thereof by engagement with notches in an outer annular portion 32 of carrier 20. Four angular positions are provided by notches (33, 34, 35, 36, Fig. 4, not shown), the extreme clockwise notch (36) being raised to provide retraction into notch (33) on release of the handle 30. A two-part sleeve 21 locates and covers connecting leads 14 to 17 (Figs. 6 and 8, not shown). A further additional switch (not shown), operated by a rod 26 axially movable by button 25, may control a windscreen washing installation, the main control lever 24 being for direction indicator control while rotation of handle 30 may control windscreen wipers.
