Abstract

1362881 Gelcoat compositions SCOTT BADER CO Ltd 28 Feb 1972 [9 March 1971 22 June 1971] 29302/71 and 6374/71 Heading C3P [Also in Division B5] A gel coat composition for coating moulds comprises an unsaturated polyester, an unsaturated copolymerizable monomer and two or more of graphite, mica, molybdenum disulphide and solid fluorocarbon polymer. The composition is combined with a catalyst and accelerator and coated on to a glass-fibre reinforced mould to provide a surface from which mouldings can be taken directly without the use of any other release agent. In examples the polyester is formed from isophthalic acid, nucleic acid, propylene glycol and diethylene glycol and the copolymerizable monomer is styrene. Various combinations of the fillers are used and the composition also contains a thixotropic agent.
